Fantastic stay from walking in the door to walking out. Upon check in we were happily welcomed at reception, after signing some paperwork I was taken to were the room was and told if we needed anything just to ask. I queried about some decaff tea bags and the lady was unsure but she went to check and showed up 5 minutes later with a few!! Dinner was lovely, we were offered to go straight to the table or have some drinks and order first, food was very good and the staff were very attentive. So much praise for them as they made it such a special stay from Nicola on reception sorting out prosecco and flowers in the room, to the chefs and food and beverage team for piping 'Happy Birthday' onto a slate with chocolates and chocolate covered strawberries (Which i hadn't asked for!) and putting a candle in the dessert. The grounds and building are stunning and is filled with a rich history, the room was spacious and had everything you needed plus more. The decor was beautiful and the TV fitted in without you evening knowing where it was there!!! I would highly recommend this hotel to others as not only a great place to stay but also to eat. Staff are all very friendly, happy to recommend and suggest drinks that would partner well with food and other drinks that are similar to what you have been drinking, they went above and beyond for me

Excellent - we have stayed before. Our room had a four-poster bed and overlooed the river Clyde. The staff were very efficient and nothing was too much trouble. The hotel was very clean. Both Dinner and Breakfast were first class.

This was our first and hopefully not last visit to this lovely hotel. The hotel is situated next to the a River Clyde and faces onto Tinto Hill and the surrounding countryside, in a very scenic and peaceful part of the world. It was a lovely place to chill. The hotel is very traditional, with dark wood in public areas. Our bedroom had antique pine furniture and was large and bright, but exceptionally warm. We checked the radiators were off, flung open the window (the one in the bathroom was sealed) and went out for a walk round the grounds. Our room was only slightly less warm on our return and we did not close it during our stay. The bar area was also exceedingly warm. Our bathroom had a bath and separate shower, with nice large thick towels. The bedroom has a very handy small fridge in it and the hotel is happy that you make use of it for your own drinks. We were booked in for DBB. Our deal included a bottle of red or white wine in our room on arrival. This wasn't in the room, but a quick word with Reception got things sorted. The wine has to be consumed in the room or taken home. It would have been preferable if we'd been allowed to have this wine with our dinner instead. Food was plentiful and tasty for both dinner and breakfast, but not fine dining. Paper napkins at dinner further emphasised this. The set menu and a la carte menus both offer fairly basic fayre, although we both fully enjoyed our dinner. Better quality sausages and black pudding would greatly improve the breakfast, which was well presented. All the staff we had dealings with with were friendly, helpful and very attentive. The hotel changed hands a short while ago and we were advised by staff that there are plans to extend the number of rooms the hotel has (perhaps with lodges). It also intends to upgrade its menus and bar area, which will improve things for all guests.

My husband a I enjoyed a very relaxing night at this hotel. The room was really nice with a king size bed which was very comfortable. There was a mini fridge in the room plus tea/coffee facil that is great to have. The bathroom was really big with bath and separate shower. As we sat out on the veranda in the afternoon we really appreciated how calm and quiet the place was. Our meal that night was delicious as was the breakfast the next morning. I would definitely recommend this hotel

Really friendly staff, nice room and good food. Package was to be DB&B but it turned out not to be so. Hotel said only £15 pp would be allowed in place of the dinner. So not the deal as stated on the offer we booked. That's not good business especially when their set menu boasts a two course meal for £17. Why would you annoy customers for as little as £2.

Hotel reply...

Dear Mr Teasdale, thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. My sincerest apologies for the confusion at your checkout, we appreciate you sharing your concern, the matter has now been rectified internally and should not occur again. My team and I hope to welcome you again soon. Regards Ian Cameron General Manager

I asked for a room with a nice outlook, didn't get it. Lovely room, too noisy at night with air con or some other machine. Room at back of hotel.

Not a good start...my sat nav took me to the back entrance up a very muddy track. But once we found the main entrance up a tree lined tarmac drive to a fairy tale castle our feelings began to improve. Once through the impressive entrance door we were greeted by a very pleasant receptionist who booked us in and then took us to our room in the old mansion house which is attached to the castle facade. It was a large room with a king-size bed and en-suite bathroom. Everything was immaculately clean and well presented. After a good nights sleep we went down to breakfast which had a varied menu.

Hotel was beautiful and staff were lovely, set in the middle of the countryside it was very relaxing. Just had a couple of minor house keeping issues drawers in bedroom were dusty and table in restaurant had not been cleaned properly and dirty cutlery these were resolved and would not stop me returning to a beautiful location.

Great setting. Uncrowded. Large well furnished room with a River Clyde view. Staff pleasant and helpful. Elegant, well furnished public rooms. £125.00 for a double room, dinner and drinks plus breakfast. Unbeatable value in my view

We absolutely love this hotel. We only book the wedding suite with jacuzzi. We went this time for my birthday for 2 nights and totally relaxed. It is secluded but you cannot get to the banks of the river Clyde outside as it belongs to the local farmer. However the views are still lovely. The hotel has a Helipad. No leisure facil but for a relaxing time it is perfect. The food is of the highest quality and the staff are wonderful. It is only a short distance to the town of Biggar. However I would recommend this beautiful old Castle to anyone and we will soon be back.

We had a great one night stay with friends All staff were friendly and helpful Facil were excellent and rooms very comfortable Each of the rooms we were allocated had good views with one looking over the fields towards Tinto We had the set dinner at £20 for three courses which had plenty of choice and we all enjoyed it The fridge in each room was useful but they made a slight noise through the night which was a little disruptive Breakfast was very good and plentiful The setting for the hotel was magnificent and we managed a couple of short local walks before dinner The next day we set off for a fabulous drive in glorious weather down to Galloway Overall a great short stay and we would happily go back again

Regular visitor and was a bit dubious when I heard was under new management, I needn't have been! Food, service & surroundings as good & consistent as ever. Great selection, presentation & value for money. Location stunning, will return soon.
